Disaster Relief for Our Staff, Students, and Families

Program Implementation/Best Practices session at NAEHCY with Sheryl Kimbro and Jessica Biel, Pender County Schools

Pender County Schools’ disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Florence required collaboration between the McKinney-Vento Program, other departments in the school system, and community organizations. Identification of those in need and providing support for these families was the first step. Child nutrition, transportation, enrollment/withdrawals, and behavior/emotional support were all addressed in the months after the storm. The process and procedures used directly after the storm and throughout the rest of the school year will be shared.
